"Cough... what a night... that's the last time I visit Dirty Dave's Dubious Donners!"― Blasto
- Not to be confused with his brother: "Blastooie" in Tribalstack Tropics.
Blasto is an anthropomorphic cannon found in Shipwreck Creek in both Yooka-Laylee and Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, and is the brother of another cannon named Blastooie, who appears in Tribalstack Tropics. Like his brother, Blasto is accompanied by a red bird pal named Kabloomie.
In Yooka-Laylee, Blasto will complain that he has something stuck in his throat and needs a good pat on the back to dislodge it. Helping him out will gain the heroes a Pagie.
Yooka-Laylee Spoiler Warning! |
---|
Blasto makes an unexpected appearance in Capital B's Office at the end of the game, once again complaining about something else in his throat. Blasto then fires a projectile at Capital B and Dr. Quack, which cause the villains to get trapped inside an extra Grand Tome. Afterwards, a party is held at Yooka and Laylee's home to celebrate Blasto's "Heroism" and Capital B's defeat. |
In Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, Blasto once again appears in Shipwreck Creek in the overworld as a side character. Yooka and Laylee can ask Blasto to turn around, and hitting Blasto with an attack will cause him to shoot a cannonball. If Blasto is facing the bridge while the bridge is up, the bridge will fall down and allow easy access to the entrance of Hivory Towers.
Kabloomie reappears too, serving as a guide to teach Yooka and Laylee how to navigate the overworld.
Name Origin[]
A blast is "a destructive wave of highly compressed air spreading outward from an explosion". When he fires a cannonball, a blast comes out. The "o" at the end might allude to "Banjo", From Banjo-Kazooie. His brother's name, Blastooie, further supports this.
Appearance[]
Blasto shares the same look, but smaller than his brother Blastooie. He is a large, rusty black cannon with small googly eyes. A wooden cart with iron wheels supports his cannon shaft.
Personality[]
Blasto seems to be kinder than his brother and apparently likes to talk a lot, as Laylee states that he has a "big mouth". After accidentally defeating Capital B, however, he becomes rather big headed an exaggerates his tale to some degree.

Trivia[]
- Blasto and Blastooie's names may be a reference to the name Banjo-Tooie, a previous game that many Playtonic Games developers made when they used to work at Rare.
- Blasto has a bird friend who often goes inside his barrel named Kabloomie. The bird has a striking resemblance to Kazooie from the Banjo-Kazooie series.
- Blasto enjoys karaoke.
- When Yooka and Laylee first meet Blasto in Shipwreck Creek, they expressed familiarity with him. This suggests that they've known Blasto before the events of the game. Probably having met him at a karaoke club, judging how they remembered his disastrous performance.
- He has a similar role to the Jinjonator from Banjo-Kazooie, as they are both the last character to attack the final boss before defeat in their respective games.
- The restaurant Blasto ate his cannonball at: Dirty Dave's Dubious Donners is a reference to the Playtonic team meeting up "every Friday night in a British town center".[1]
