Capital Causeway is the first level in Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair. The variant version is Chaos. Factory Fright follows this stage.

Overview[]

As the first chapter in the game, Capital Causeway has a simple design, teaching the players basic mechanics such as rolling, Ghost Quill challenges, hidden collectibles, Laylee Bells, Checkmates, and swimming.

Environment[]

The chapter starts in a small home, with several boxes in it. Outside is a downhill path that leads to the main town.

T.W.I.T Coins[]

~Coin 1~

T.W.I.T. Coin 1
When the player first starts the level, the first T.W.I.T. Coin is hidden right above the player, but it is hidden behind a wall. The only way to reach it is by walking outside and jumping on top of the tallest box, and then to roll towards the ledge with two quills, and then jump in mid-air. Upon entering, the wall disappears and the first T.W.I.T. Coin will be revealed to the player.

After the player enters the door at the end of the first segment of the level (located after the third and before the third checkmate), the player will naturally encounter the second T.W.I.T. coin. Yooka and Laylee can easily jump and grab without much difficulty.

T.W.I.T. Coin 3
When the player leaves the tall house that appears after the fourth checkmate, they will encounter a yellow house (Fig. 3a). lower door is locked, while the upper door contains the third T.W.I.T. coin. The player must not destroy the large box, as it is mandatory to access the upper door.

Once reached, the player will encounter a room full of unstable platforms (Fig. 3b). By touching the blue Ghost Quill - Heidi, it will throw nine different quills that move vertically. By collecting all of the quills, Heidi will allow the player to collect the third T.W.I.T. Coin above the exit (Fig. 3c). The main challenge of collecting the quills is that Yooka must collect them without falling through the unstable platforms. If the player falls without collecting the quills, the player must be defeated to reset back to the last checkmate to allow Heidi to spawn again, as reentering the building immediately will not cause Heidi to respawn.

~Coin 4~

After the fifth checkmate that's located inside of the house, the next room contains several unstable platforms (Fig. 4a). Climb up the unstable platforms onto the room to the left to reveal a hidden room (Fig. 4b). This room contains two quillions and the fourth T.W.I.T. Coin

~Coin 5~

T.W.I.T. Coin 5
After the final checkmate inside of the building, the player will eventually stumble across multiple unstable platforms, wooden platforms on the right and a T.W.I.T. Coin to the left behind a large box. Roll off the platforms and land the middle platform platform. Jump in the middle of the roll if necessary.

Ghost Quills[]

Evie
Evie can be found shortly after walking out of the first house.


After touching Evie, Evie can be chased down and if the player collects Evie for the second time, Evie will reward the player with a Quillion.




Heidi
Heidi can be found right when the player enters the town.


Collect all of the quills rotating around Heidi to collect a Quillion




Ann-Gree
Ann-Gree can be found shortly after the first Laylee Bell on the swinging platform, which is found shortly after finding Heidi.



Jump on top of Ann-Gree 4 times to receive asudden blast of quills.




Normy
After the player reaches the first door and the fourth checkmate, the player may knockdown a bridge and climb a hill of boxes to enter a house. At the bottom of the hill of boxes, there is a box with a quill symbol on it.


The player can break the box to release Normy and Normy will enter the house.

Normy will lead a line of quills around the lantern. If the player collects them all, the player will receive a Quillion.




Heidi
After the player drops down from the tall house, there is a tall building with two doors and boxes. The first door is not accessible, and it is important for the player to not destroy the big box in order to access the top door which has Heidi.


The player will fall down and can collect Heidi.

The player must collect the quills on the unstable platforms and must not fall in order to collect Heidi's reward. If the player collects all of the quills, Heidi will award the player the third T.W.I.T. coin in the level.




Fee-Dee
When the player first encounters the giant water pool with Queen Pheobee's statue, Fee-Dee will be above the water surface.


Upon collection, Fee-Dee will enter the water and begin to release a lot of quills. After swimming around for a while, Fee-Dee will release a load of quills.




Normy
Normy is found in the final area after the seventh checkmate in the large quill-marked box.


After the player breaks the large quill-marked box, Normy will run around the unstable platforms. If the player collects all of the quills, Normy will reward the player with a Quillion.

Checkmates[]

In Capital Causeway, aside from the first checkmate, there are six checkmates in total within the level. In total, there are seven checkmates. If the "Less Checkmates" tonic is equipped, the only checkmate that appears within the level (aside from the first one) is the fifth checkmate, who appears in the middle of the level. If the "More Checkmates" tonic, an extra checkmate will appear between checkmates 3 and 4.

LC = Checkmate will disappear if the "Less Checkmates" tonic is equipped.

MC = Checkmate will only appear if the "More Checkmates" tonic is equipped.

This fifth checkmate marks the middle of the level, and is located inside of a large building. Other than the first checkmate, this is the only checkmate not affected by the "Less Checkmates" tonic.

The seventh checkmate is the final checkmate located in the final building of Capital Causeway.

This extra checkmate is located shortly after the second checkmate and is very close to the third checkmate. It is highly not recommended to use the "More Checkmates" since it will take away -0.2 from the quill bonus, and in return, it gives the player one extra checkmate that is located in between two checkmates that are already very close to each other.

Capital Causeway - Chaos is the variation of Capital Causeway, the first level of Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, but due to how late in the game it is unlocked, it may be considered to be one of the final levels. Capital Causeway - Chaos and its base state is the chapter before Factory Fright.

The variation of this chapter is unlocked by helping the Blamphibian Angler find his rod. His rod is on the ledge above the first Planker you encounter in the overworld, while the Blamphibian himself is at the bottom-right corner of the beach. After helping him, go back to the ledge. When you speak to him, his line starts to shake and he pulls the town right out of the book. If you talk to him again, he'll put the town back

The chapter takes place in the same town as before, but this time it's been completely decimated, as the buildings had all been literally torn out from the ground
