Yooka-Laylee (Series)[]

Yooka-Laylee is a British video game franchise developed by Playtonic Games, a studio formed by former Rare developers who previously worked on classics like Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country. The series debuted in 2017 with the release of Yooka-Laylee, a 3D platformer that follows the adventures of Yooka the chameleon and Laylee the bat as they attempt to recover magical book pages called Pagies from the villainous Capital B. The game was funded through a record-breaking Kickstarter campaign and published by Team17. It launched on multiple platforms including PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows, and later the Nintendo Switch.

In 2019, the franchise expanded with Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, a 2.5D platformer that blended side-scrolling gameplay with an overworld reminiscent of classic Zelda titles. This entry was praised for its tighter level design and inventive mechanics. In 2025, Playtonic will release Yooka-Replaylee, a remade and enhanced version of the original game, featuring updated visuals, reworked levels, and new story content. The series has carved out a loyal fanbase and continues to evolve as a modern homage to the golden age of platformers.
